Unattended access

Working on a machine with no one at the screen, for an update or a production machine. How it works, and which safeguards exist.

What are we talking about?

Unattended access lets a technician take control of a machine without anyone present to accept the connection. This is what enables maintenance outside office hours, on machines the provider knows and manages.

How FlowLINE does it

On a managed machine, a permanent password is set in the machine's settings (Settings → Security). Connections then use the machine ID and this password — with no human intervention. On a one-off machine, by contrast, the connection must be accepted by the person present: with a click or with a one-time password.

The safeguards

Unattended access does not make the connection invisible: during the session, an indicator is visible on the machine (window, icon, notification). Every connection is logged: who connected, to which machine and when. Technician accounts are protected by mandatory two-factor authentication, and the session can be ended at any time by closing the module.

Best practices

Reserve unattended access for machines genuinely managed by your provider, with a strong permanent password kept in a password manager. Change the password if a technician leaves the team. On a machine that is not maintained regularly, prefer acceptance on request.

Key point: the permanent password is set on the machine concerned (Settings → Security). Without a permanent password, a connection must be accepted by the person present.
